Garry Lineham on the Health Optimisation Podcast

Hey {{first_name|there}},

For nearly 20 years, he lived with pain at a six or seven out of ten.

He saw more than 300 practitioners and spent $2.5 million searching for an answer.

Nothing gave him the lasting change he was looking for. But he refused to accept that he was simply "unfixable."

Eventually, the question he was asking began to change.

Instead of only asking how to make the pain disappear, he started asking what his body might be trying to tell him.

That search led him to fascia, the connective tissue surrounding your muscles and organs.

He came to believe that tension held in the fascia was part of why his pain had persisted.

He also began paying closer attention to his jaw, which rarely relaxed, and the feeling that his body was constantly bracing for impact.

My guest is Garry Lineham, co-founder of Human Garage and creator of Fascia Maneuvers. After developing the movements he says helped him change his own pain, he began sharing them with others. Human Garage's free content is now followed by millions of people around the world.

During our conversation, Garry applied pressure to a tender point and asked me to rate the pain. He then guided me through a simple exercise, and we watched that rating drop to zero.

What we cover:

  • How to read pain as information and start identifying what may be driving it

  • Why Garry believes a clenched jaw can keep your body feeling braced

  • How emotion and feeling safe may change your response to pain

  • How lower-rib movement affects breathing, and what nasal breathing did for my VO2 max

  • What Garry learned from seeing more than 300 practitioners

  • How to use his two-minute counter-rotated breathing reset when your body feels tense

The question I kept coming back to after this conversation was simple:

What changed before the pain appeared, and what might still be keeping the body tense now?

If something's seriously wrong, get it checked. But this conversation is about what happens after you've done that and still haven't found the answer.
